MP backs biodiesel tax break project

Liberal Democrat MP Andrew George is backing a campaign to keep tax breaks for business who produce biodiesel.

Producers transforming cooking oil into biodiesel presently benefit from a 20p differential but that is because of end next April.

The St Ives MP, who leads the Lib Dem Environment Team, has been meeting with the UK sustainable biodiesel alliance.

Mr George said “a variety of small companies in Cornwall presently earn money from utilized cooking oil”.

He included: “In order to be able to get this sort of market going it does require just a little bit of lift which comes in the kind of tax inevitable.”

Biodiesel is a blend of traditional diesel, and veggie oils.
